If you have been watching my Instagram stories than you know over the past year I have really gotten into thrifting. Growing up with my grandparents I was no stranger to a Salvation Army, or a Friday watching my grandpa circle the garage sale listings in the newspaper. My grandma also was a thrifting genius, owning her own antique stores over the years. As a kid this wasn’t my exact idea of fun, but over the last year I’ve really gotten into it. I love being able to find more unique pieces for our home.
Here are my top 3 thrifting tips for this week!
1.HAVE FUN
Finding thrift treasures is such a thrill, and I am also so happy when I walk out with my treasured finds. There are still plenty of days when I find absolutely nothing though. That is all part of the hunt. Don’t get discouraged! Also, it might be hard but try and not compare thrifting trips to others. A stores inventory can change so quickly.

- Side table
- Stack of books
- wooden dish on table
- pillowcases
- throw blanket + basket
2. HIGH AND LOW
Always, always, always, check high and low! Those bottoms shelves sure can have some hidden treasures on them. I always have to remember to do this and stop keeping my eyes at eye level. Sometimes if I have the time I will also walk the aisles one more time. I almost always find something that I missed in the first pass through.

3. HAVE A LIST
When I first started thrifting I bought items that I really didn’t have a plan for. I’d go home with several items that I had no spot for, or really didn’t fit in anywhere. This is when I started writing down what I was currently looking for, or things I like having extra on hand. Also, for a lot of people it’s hard to imagine a thrifted item in their home. Lets be real, it’s usually all dirty and dusty on the store shelves, and doesn’t really look that appealing. I find that if it’s an item on my list, I already have a home for it, and I can imagine just how it will look in that spot.
Current List:
• Salt and Pepper Shakers. I have none in my house currently, so anything is an upgrade, but what I am really looking for a brass salt and pepper grinder. This one may take some time, but I am OK with the wait for the right thing.
• Chess or Domino Box.
• Small pleated lampshade in a darker color
Always looking list:
• Planters/Vases. Never can have too many in my house. I love to gift cut flowers from our garden in the summer right in the thrifted case.
• Candlesticks. I dream of a rainbow drawer of candlesticks.
• Kitchenware. I will dedicate an entire post to this in the future!
