Last week someone asked me what the best day to go thrifting is, and I took that as a challenge to thrift every single day to determine what the best day was. It was a fun challenge, and I did end up repeating one store on several days. I thought comparing the same store would be able to better tell me what the best day was. I enjoyed doing it this way because sometimes it takes a few times of seeing something to have an idea, and I also loved spotting the new things they put out. Wednesday, Saturday and Monday, Tuesday were all the same Goodwill. Those also happened to be my favorite days.

It’s so fun to see your items together and what I gravitated towards on those days. Those Martha Stewart plates were a fav. of this trip. I really want spring to be here because I want a table scape with these plates.
One of my top finds this week caught my eye because of the butterflies. I thought the design was stunning, and the edging detail was beautiful. It wasn’t until I got home and did my research that I found out it was actually a Herend Rothschild Bird. These pieces currently sell for $685 and are apparently highly sought after by collectors. I can’t believe I found this at my local Goodwill! I would never purchase it at full price myself, but I will absolutely enjoy eating my salad out of it.
I was walking toward the linen section when this immediately caught my eye. I’m always able to spot an Anthropologie piece anywhere. I love the colors—perfect for the Christmas season—but I also think it’s great for Valentine’s Day. And the fringe is absolutely adorable!
Two things I absolutely love that I found are these two pieces of art by Paul Palnik, a Cleveland-born artist and cartoonist. I’ve always loved finding and adding art from local artists to my home, so this was such an amazing find. The Great Naked People Chase and Jamboree is the best! When you get up close, you realize it’s indeed a bunch of naked people. I love that it’ll be a conversation piece, and it’s definitely going into our living room. The racquetball one is also fun, and I think it’s going to be great in my son’s room. I have just the spot!
MY CONCLUSION?
Wednesday around 10:30am, Saturday at 9AM, Monday at 1:30pm were my favorite days and times that I went. A mix between weekday and weekend, and also times.
Friday was an evening thrift trip and actually was 3 stores. I didn’t find much that even caught my eye and the utensils were the only thing I even purchased. Sunday morning was also not that great. I did have the entire store to myself for a good 45 minutes which was insane, but nothing really that great came from it. Also, Sundays tend to be busy in the afternoons, and I’d rather not deal.
Conclusion: I tend to score my best stuff on a Monday and Tuesday. Why? My guess is donations are higher on the weekend and by early weekday they begin to get them onto the floor. Yesterday while I was in Goodwill I counted 9 new racks and carts go onto the floor in the 45 minutes I was there. That means something for everyone. The most shocking day: Saturday! I don’t thrift a lot on the weekends because everyone else usually is too! I got in at 9AM right when they opened though and absolutely hit the jackpot! I might have to start going on Saturdays more often
CONSISTENCY. I know we all don’t have all the free time in the world but going often really does help. Driving by a thrift store on the way home from work? Try and pop in for a quick 10-15 minutes. Also, once you start going more often you really become more comfortable around a thrift store, you find out the areas you like to go first, materials/colors/patterns start to stand out to you.
